The Return of the King: PureThermal 3
Continuing our successful line of thermal webcams, the PureThermal 3 (PT3) is the latest edition that, according to our Head of Hardware Engineering, Griffin Covert: "The motivation of the new design was primarily to address component shortages, but we took it as an opportunity to make a new form factor...We never saw much use of the optional RF shield pads on the PureThermal 2, so doing away with that left room for a detailed silkscreen and USB-C connector...This in combination with a custom jig, allows for more rapid flashing at the fab compared to DFU over USB."
The PT3 is a hackable thermal webcam for the FLIR Lepton (2.x - 3.x) LWIR camera core. It has the same basic functionality of the PureThermal 2 but with a few changes and additional features. Unlike the PT2, the PT3 does not have pads to install an RF shield and the Tag-Connect TC2030 programming connector is replaced by the Tag-Connect EC-10-IDC.
The PureThermal 3 is currently being bundled with the FLIR Lepton FS, and can be upgraded with a Lepton 3.5.
