Old Towne Code

Old Towne Code

Written By: GroupGets Will | July 25, 2019

We've got horses, we've got code, and we don't have rights to the song so don't expect lyrics. What we do have though are some recently closed and updated group buys for hot hardware.

HKCam Advanced

HKCam Advanced

Let’s talk about home security, and how our newest campaign is making it easier without a costly monthly subscription. Inspired by the original open-source HKCam created by Matt Hochgatterer that we stumbled upon via Appleinsider, our slightly upgraded version is here to keep a vigilant eye over your home. Equipped with a 130° night vision camera, 3D-printable case, infrared lights, and a 64GB SanDisk Micro SD card, the HKCam Advanced will stand guard day and night. Using ffmpeg to access and publish the camera stream to your desired HomeKit app such as Matt Hochgatterer's Home 3 app, you are able to access the data from almost any device. Thanks to the HKCam Advanced, I found out who has been raiding the company fridge and stealing my lunch. Whether you are keeping an eye on the homestead while at work, or gathering evidence to fire the sticky fingered intern Adam who apparently can’t pack his own lunch, get an HKCam Advanced today.

AudioMoth Updates

AudioMoth Updates

Round 7 of AudioMoth is heading into production, and will be shipping out next month. The Open Acoustic Device's team is flying from the UK to our Reno HQ to personally oversee the current build as we update some of the processes to get ready for higher volume/frequency production. AudioMoth is being used around the world in hundreds of different applications, recording every animal from bears to bees, and in numerous disciplines from ecology to geology. This wild success is due to the incredible curiosity and creativity of our community. To show our appreciation, we will be launching monthly AudioMoth campaigns to ensure a steady supply of these awesome recorders to you awesome people.

Episode 1

Episode 1

In the first installment of our newest video series, “Matt and Will aren’t allowed back in office until they make a new video”, we go look at wild horses. After a scenic drive through the hills of Reno, we found an off road trail through wild horse country that led to a scenic overlook. Thanks to the GetLab Rugged Boson Case, we were able to keep our Boson 640 safe from dust, vibrations, and horses during the offroad adventure. Check out pictures of our setup here.

Datum + CircuitPython = YES

Datum + CircuitPython = YES

The gang over Adafruit just graciously ported CircuitPython to J&J Studios' full line of Atmel SAMD21G18-based sensor boards. If that wasn’t good enough, J&J Studios is currently writing tutorials for Java and LabVIEW to make their already easy to use sensors more accessible. GroupGets currently has group buying campaigns live for the datum-Distance, datum-Light, and datum-IMU sensors and they are all now over half-way backed.

Boson GPDI Goodness

Boson GPDI Goodness

Websters dictionary defines GPDI as, "The word you've entered isn't in the dictionary. Click on a spelling suggestion below or try again using the search bar above." Thanks Merriam, but our CEO Ron apparently thinks that GPDI is defined as, "A General Purpose Differential Interface." So what does that mean? That means that your Boson can now directly output on to most standard monitors with HDMI ports, no computer needed. You're probably wondering why the last sentence sounded a bit vague, and doesn't directly mention the mystical cable that lets you plug a Boson in to most standard monitors with HDMI ports. Lawyers, the reason is lawyers. Check out this video about our awesome new GPDI adapter and the intentionally unspecified mystery cable.
