FLIR Boson Quarterly

FLIR Boson Quarterly

Written By: GroupGets Will | April 30, 2019

There are a lot of exciting FLIR Boson updates so we've dedicated an entire newsletter to them. First and foremost, we're running a special FLIR Boson sale for a very limited time. Some of our partners have made some incredible UAS solutions available to you in our store. We're raising the bar on our custom Boson accessory game to match that of our Lepton innovations. We'd also like to put a spotlight on a local lab that is doing some extremely cool stuff with thermal imaging and UAS.

LoFive R1 Campaign

Boson Rugged Enclosure v1.1

After getting a great initial response, the second generation of our custom rugged enclosure for Boson is now in production. We moved the design from anodized aluminum to polycarbonate to reduce weight and cost for v1.1. The new case with an integrated anti-reflective Germanium coating will be in our store shortly and will retail for $679. Please inquire about volume discounts. If you are more into heavy metal than PC, we’ll still make that version as well upon ordering a minimum of 10. Contact us for details.

Flight of the Boson

Flight of the Boson

Without question, one of the more interesting things to do with a Boson is to put it in the air. Drone Nerds is a leader in providing a ready-to-fly DJI Mavic solution that lets you simultaneously view 4k visible and 640x480 thermal video via a FLIR Boson 640 and custom mount. We've had the privilege of shipping this bird to emergency responders and other special people in demanding situations and have had zero complaints. If you are instead interested in a more DIY solution to get your Boson in flight, sUAS Thermal Quadcopter Solutions has a few products to help you mount it to a drone and then view your thermal video on land without breaking the bank.

Boson Group Buy

Boson Group Buy

It’s about time that we offered a group buy discount for Boson. At the time of this writing, it is 50% funded so definitely take advantage of this if you need to stock up on all models and accessories.

Thermal Project Spotlight

Thermal Project Spotlight

One of the many perks of our new Reno HQ is all of the UAS activity in the area due to NV’s designation as an FAA test site. UNR’s Autonomous Robots Lab is a valued local customer whose work we’d like to spotlight. Lead by Dr. Kostas Alexis, this lab is doing fascinating work across multiple UAS use-cases and even better, they open source much of their field data sets. While this video and data set is from a FLR Tau 2 core, it’s still worth a showcase. Do you have a noteworthy project that incorporates a FLIR Boson or Tau that you’d like us to share? Feel free to contact us with details!

Boson GPDI Digital Video Adapter

Boson GPDI Digital Video Adapter

The USB C video output option of the Boson is certainly a modern approach for getting your Boson video into an updated monitor or computer but sometimes the old ways are still preferred. We’re about to release a new general purpose differential interface (GPDI) adapter that lets you connect your Boson into a wider variety of standard digital video monitors and computers that you have lying around in your lab. We plan to release this much asked for adapter by the end of Q2.

OpenMV Cam H7

OpenMV Cam H7

Warning, this product spotlight is about the FLIR Lepton core but we think that it’s noteworthy to Boson developers nonetheless. Fresh off of fulfilling its Kickstarter, the Cam H7 by OpenMV runs MicroPython as its OS so you can do sophisticated machine vision applications with Python scripts instead of C++. The Cam H7 features a special Lepton adapter so you can add thermal image processing to its standard visible camera interface. GroupGets proudly supplied the Leptons to the KickStarter backers for this innovative open source hardware and software product and now we have the camera, Lepton adapter, and Lepton all in stock so you don’t have to wait to get it.
